Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto
FEUP, Portugal

FEUP has a prominent research center, CONSTRUCT, specializing in structural engineering, construction materials, and sustainability. Previous seismic engineering-related projects, such as PRISE (2013) and MitRisk (2018), involving members from FEUP, will provide SERENE with initial information regarding building-specific expected seismic annual losses and suitable retrofit solutions for Portuguese buildings.

University School for Advanced Studies
IUSS — Pavia, Italy

The University School for Advanced Studies (IUSS) Pavia is an Italian Public University devoted to research and higher education. IUSS is specialised in the area of Understanding and Managing Extremes (UME), particularly those related to natural hazards, with consolidated experience in seismic risk, flood and extreme weather risk assessment, working in close collaboration with the University of Pavia and the EUCENTRE Foundation. IUSS Pavia has also worked together with Portuguese partners in two recent projects (ITERATE and SMARTER, 2017) that addressed integrated seismic risk in Algeria and is currently working in ReLUIS, an inter-university consortium that aims to achieve concrete objectives regarding the assessment and reduction of vulnerability and seismic risk.

IST — Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal

Within the IST’s academic landscape, the DeCivil is instrumental in fostering expertise in civil engineering, with a particular emphasis on seismic engineering. IST’s commitment to advancing seismic engineering is evident through research initiatives, specialized coursework, and state-of-the-art facilities. IST has been involved in public awareness-raising initiatives in the recent past, addressed by two projects: KNOWRISK (DG-ECHO, 2015) and RESIST (ongoing) jointly with the partner Municipality of Lisbon, which have addressed seismic risk and resilience of buildings in urban areas. Moreover, IST has worked together with FEUP in the MitRisk (2018) project.
